I SHOULD like to thank the Times and its associated newspapers, and all those of your readers who came here last weekend, for the tremendous success of our open days.

Visitor numbers greatly exceeded our expectations with over 1,200 of your readers taking advantage of the free admission arranged exclusively for them. I hope that they will now visit us more often, perhaps bringing their friends and relatives.

The event has generated enormous goodwill and exposure for Morwellham Quay and enthusiastic support for the development plans of our charitable trust. We have already received many enquiries about our local resident's season ticket scheme and membership of the Friends of Morwellham. In each case, a single annual fee permits free admission for 12 months.

The weather was kind to us, especially on Sunday when there was the extra attraction of two performances by the Plymouth Maids Clog Dancers. The Ship Inn proved very popular and we must apologise to anyone who experienced a slight delay in the service of their meal - it was due to the sheer pressure of numbers.

I should also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Geoffrey Haigh, chairman of the friends, and his wife, Penny, for kindly staffing an information desk. And, of course, I give grateful thanks to all our staff and the Plymouth Maids for ensuring that our visitors had a memorable day.

I look forward to announcing more promotional events in the coming year and to again welcoming your readers here.
