VISITORS to Tavistock in December will be able to park in the town for free on weekday afternoons thanks to BID.

Tavistock BID is offering free parking after 3pm from Monday to Friday throughout the month.

BID chairman Tony Whitehead said: 'Christmas is one of the most busy trading periods for most businesses.

'Free parking organised by BID will undoubtedly be a considerable help in increasing footfall in the town.'

The scheme follows a similar event held earlier in the year which, BID manager Lisa Waddling said, received good feedback.

She said: 'December is when people are out shopping most so having free parking in the afternoons will hopefully attract lots of shoppers, visitors and mums after school. Rather than just staying for an hour or so, hopefully people will come in after lunch and stay all afternoon.'

People will be able to park free after 3pm at the Brook Street car park, Bank Square car park, Chapel Street car park, Russell Street car park, Abbey Rise car park, Riverside car park, Guildhall car park, Bedford Car Park and the Wharf car park.
