THELMA Newell, a local artist who has exhibited in West Devon, is offering free art lessons to absolute beginners, or anyone who just enjoys painting.

They will be held in trial sessions on Wednesday September 29, October 6 and October 27. Continuation of these sessions will depend upon demand.

Thelma is multi-skilled, and can also teach drawing, embroidery, etc.

She trained at Bournemouth Teacher Training College, continuing her training at Salisbury Art College.

She is a contemporary of Freddie Yates and John Ward, both well known at one time.

The sessions will be from 9.30am to 11.30pm at the United Reformed Church, Russell Street, Tavistock.
