WARD and Chowen report another busy day at their recent sale at Tavistock Livestock Centre. The sale included the fourth season sale of suckled calves as well as a fortnightly sale of store cattle and store sheep. Prices topped at £500 for a 19mo South Devon x steer from P J and J A Rogers, Sydenham Damerel, who also topped the store heifers at £470 for a 19mo South Devon x. Other store prices included £495 for a 19mo South Devon x steer from Roskilly Farms, Tavistock; £475 for two 17mo Limousin steers from T N Bellamy, Tavistock and £435 for a 14mo Simmental x from Mrs J M Boon, Lamerton. Suckled calf prices topped at £422 for a 8mo Charolais x steer from J Cooper, Okehampton. Suckled calf heifers sold to £330 for two 9mo Charolais x from G T J Medland, Tavistock. Other suckled calf prices included £412 for a 9mo Charolais x from E Schuttkacker and Sons, Okehampton; £395 for five 8mo Charolais x from J Cooper, Okehampton and £278 for four 9mo Charolais x from M Northmore, Yelverton. In the sheep pens trade was again very strong with prices topping at £40.80 for a pen of Suffolk and mixed lambs from J and S Eggins, Yelverton. Ram lambs sold to £34.50 for a pen from T D Vallance, Horrabridge, and wether lambs sold to £34 for a pen from B J L and D J Landick, Sampford Spiney.
