FUTURE Taekwon-Do champions had great success at a national competition in Reading. Four students from PUMA Taekwon-Do Club in Crediton performed exceptionally well, and two are now on their way to compete at world class level. The team, who went against 500 competitors, returned with a handful of medals. Ryan Powlesland collected silver in the Peewee boys? blue belt sparring division, Sarah Powlesland claimed bronze in the girls? red and black sparring, and Laura Penny won bronze in the junior black belt girls? patterns and gold in the girls? red and black belt sparring, with Chris Mullen performing well in the adult male yellow belt division. The performances by Laura Penny and Sarah Powlesland did not go unnoticed, and they have now been selected for the elite junior squad of the UKITF, attending national training sessions and with a view to qualify for the World Taekwon-Do Championships in 2006. Dave Powlesland, coach at Crediton said ?I am sure that it is only a matter of time before we have a world champion.?
