TWO pupils from Mount House School in Tavistock, found a German World War Two helmet during a recent trip to France.

Brothers Jasper and Oscar Oursin discovered the helmet in Picardy during a riverbank scramble to rescue a lost shoe as it was floating downstream.

The helmet is clearly of German origin and although heavily corroded, clearly features bullet holes.

Staff and pupils at Mount House were grateful to the boys for sharing the helmet with the school community in advance of Remembrance Sunday.

Headmaster Patrick Savage said: 'There is no better way to bring history to life than with exciting discoveries of key artefacts like this. We are very grateful to the boys for sharing their adventure — and find — with us.'
