Tavistock U11s 26

Paignton U11s 0

THE final score of this hard fought match does not do justice to the strength of the opposition.

Both teams played beyond their years, but Tavistock's superior forward play in rucks and mauls proved too much for the visitors.

Paignton's attacks were broken down by the solid local defence with crunching tackles from full back Jack Haigh and centre Jake Case.

The front row forwards, George Harold, Cameron Hogg and Joe Hair won turnover ball on many occasions to set up plays involving penetrating runs from Barnaby Frost, Mark Friend and winger Josh Leeson.

The twisting runs of Philip Snell resulted in a hat-trick of tries for the captain, the last of which was made possible by scrum half Rhys Dunford delivering a perfect ball while under pressure from his opposite number.

Elliot Hoyte crossed the line in both halves but his first effort was disallowed. Josh Stephens added six points with some fine kicking.

Replacements Charlie Hubbard and Rufus Gould also played a part in this excellent team display.

This Sunday the squad travel to Ivybridge.

Tavistock U9s 20

Paignton U9s 15

TAVISTOCK entertained a strong Paignton and played well to secure a narrow victory.

In the first half Paignton went 5 points ahead three times, only for Tavistock to strike back immediately with a try from Connor Williams and two from Rhys Davies.

Jamie Stephens had a couple of good runs to threaten the Paignton line and both Henry Salmon and Fraser Bayliss tackled well in defence.

In the second half Tavistock's defence was much better organised. Henry Kisby was superb in his first game for Tavistock and both teams battled for the upper hand.

Paignton's defence was breached by a typically powerful Rhys Davies run which proved to be the decisive score.

Tavistock U9s B 5

Paignton U9s B 25

THIS was the first time many of these players had played in a contact match. Paignton were strong but Tavistock competed well with Fiona McCall and Luke Grant showing great improvement.

Thomas Russell made numerous strong tackles while William Coulton and Sam Northmore combined well to threaten the Paignton line a number of times.

The additional experience of the Paignton team proved decisive and they ran in five good tries.

Tavistock competed until the end and William Coulton scored a consolation try just before the final whistle.

Tavistock U8s 50

Paignton U8s 25

TAVISTOCK put in their best performance this year to beat Paignton by ten tries to five.

Tavistock went into an early lead as Charlie Wood scored the first of his two tries. From this good start the lead never looked in doubt as outstanding defensive work kept Paignton from capitalising on possession.

The home side worked hard to win the ball and made good use of it when they did.

Annabel Longden scored two tries, the second as a result of a quick pass out of defence by Jordan Stacey. Longden beat the entire Paignton defence before touching down.

Harriet Edwards scored her first competitive try after a good run and David Milligan, who supported well all morning, scored to put the result beyond doubt.

The other tries were scored by Aaron Dobie (2), William Stenhouse, and Robert Bone.

Will Stewart, Darcy Bourton and James Ware had excellent games.

Player of the match: Charlie Wood.

Tavistock U14s 7

Devonport Services U14s 90

FOR the first ten minutes Tavistock were leading after a wonderful interception by Damien Dee, at inside centre. He burst through the Devonport players, running 50 metres to score between the posts. While Tavistock battled to stem the tide of Devonport attacks under the morale boosting captaincy of Ewan McCall, the visitors' superior aggression, organisation and ball handling combined to make this a resounding win for Services.

There were some noteworthy perfomances by Tavistock; Nathan Peck's accurate throwing allowed them to win quality lineout ball, Tom Haigh's aggressive tackling in the first half stopped the build up of Services attacks in their tracks.

Man of the match: Damien Dee.

This Sunday Ivybridge at home.

Tavistock U10s 15

Paignton U10s 20

PAIGNTON brought a large, physical, side to Tavistock on Sunday. But far from being intimidated it seemed to spur Tavistock on.

Within minutes Michael Brain squeezed the ball over for the first Tavistock try.

Five minutes later, Tavistock were stuck in the middle of the park and Paignton manged to run in their first.

Tavistock managed to win the midfield battle and Hallam Bourton ran half the length of the pitch to score.

Paignton won a lineout just a few metres from the Tavistock line and drove over for the equaliser.

Then Paignton stole the lead on the stroke of half-time with a carbon copy of their first try.

In the second half Tavistock won the ball and Edward Longdon received it after some fine passing skills.

He bounced one defender out of the way and from inside his own half ran all the way to the try line.

With minutes to go Paignton were awarded a penalty halfway into the Tavistock half.

Quick passing released their wing who cut down their right side line for a score right in the corner.

Despite the defeat, this was a far better performance with all the players improving tremendously.
