A FAMILY business set up in Tavistock almost 40 years ago is to close next March and its site transformed into luxury homes. The sites of Kaminski?s builder?s merchants and garden centre, on either side of Parkwood Road, are being bought by Torquay-based developers Cavanna Homes. The sites have planning permission for residential development. Kaminski?s was started in 1966 by Edmund and Doris Kaminski. They were joined in the business nine years later by their son, Tony. At its peak, the firm employed 25 people. Edmund sadly died three years ago. Tony said the firm and its employees had given all they could, but had enjoyed building the merchants and garden centre trade up for a ?wonderful Tavistock clientele?. He said: ?It has always been our ambition to concentrate solely on the property side of the firm and expanding our rental and holiday properties will now be full-time.? The new firm will run Mr Kaminski?s total of 30 rental and holiday homes. The rental properties are in Tavistock and the holiday homes in Porthleven, Cornwall. Mr Kaminski stressed that the sale of the Parkwood Road sites would not affect the rented homes he owns in the road. The new business will be run from Mr Kaminksi?s home in Down Road.
