I REALLY must take issue with Colin Brent who seems to think that all Manchester United supporters who were not born in that particular North Eastern city are Johnny-come-lately morons who have jumped on the bandwagon since the recent success of the Reds under Sir Alec and skipper Ron Keen.
Well, Mr Brent, I would like to point out that even though I live here in the West Country, I have been a loyal supporter since long before the Zurich air disaster, with a short break of 25 years when we narrowly failed to win the league.
I can remember clearly the wonderful performance of Dennis Law in that European cup triumph over Spanish giants Benfica.
I have also supported our representatives in the England team over the years and was at Wembley in '66 to witness the match-winning contribution of our Jack Charlton and the man who inspired the unforgettable chant 'Six foot two, eyes of blue, Nobby Styles is after you'.
I was famous among local Reds during the reign of Wilf McCaffery and 'Big Ron' Atkins as the man who attended more games than even Bestie, and among my facsimile autographs are United legends Ted McDougall and Paddy Roche.
Next time you are heading up the M4 to watch the likes of Dick Francis and Syd Bowels, Mr Brent, the car passing you in the outside lane with the red scarf fluttering out of the rear window will be the real football supporters heading once again for the Stadium of Light.
