FITNESS club Curves will be taking part in a charity food drive as part of a global initiative to mark International Women's Day.

Curves in Tavistock, as well as 240 other Curves clubs across the UK, will be participating in the event throughout March, to build a giant food bank for charity.

The food collected by Curves Tavistock will be donated to the Shekinah Mission in Plymouth, which supports people who are homeless, have substance misuse issues, ex-offenders or those who feel socially excluded.

Amanda McOwan, manager of Curves Tavistock, said: 'We always receive a huge amount of support for our annual food drive. Last year, Curves managed to raise 3,354,806 kilos of food globally and 29,460 kilos in the UK alone. We are delighted to show our support for Women's Day but also do our bit for the Shekinah Mission.'

As well as asking existing members to donate bags of groceries, Curves will be waiving the joining fee for new members in exchange for foodstuff at the beginning of March.
