A NEW series of high profile folk music events in Okehampton launched last Saturday with a continental evening of entertainment.

A French dance evening in the Charter Hall with duo Matta-Rouch from Southern France, multi award-winning border piper David Faulkner and French dance music aces Eelgrinders launched the 'Folk Comes to Town' series, organised by Wren Music.

The concert was Matta-Rouch's first ever performance in England, with much of their repertoire using a wide range of pipe instruments.

As well as the French flavour, David Faulkner played a range of traditional British and English pipe music, and Eelgrinders brought their unique vibrant folk stylings.

The charity has more events planned for later in the year, all featuring leading UK and overseas artists from diverse folk traditions.
