OKEHAMPTON Library will once again be celebrating National Bookstart Day next week ? and the younger you start them, the better.
This year, there will be a prize for the youngest baby to join Okehampton Library during the week, October 4-9. The prize, kindly donated by Cinnabar Studio in Okehampton, is a free portrait sitting and free enlargement.
All parents need to do is go along to the library with some official form of identification and join their child ? free of charge.
Bookstart is a national scheme started in 1992 and aims to reach every baby in the UK.
Since it was launched, the scheme has given away more than 3.7-million baby books.
Free books and information about sharing books with babies are given out to parents and carers around the seven to nine month development check.
This ensures that each baby who receives the pack has two books to explore and have fun. In addition babies and their families are encouraged to join their local library.
