THE future of Dartmoor villages will go under the spotlight at a special event being staged by the Dartmoor Society later this month. The tenth annual debate held by the society will take place in Walkhampton Memorial Hall, where a range of topics will be discussed and a tour of the village will be included. Speakers at the event on September 29 include Jenny Sanders, a historian and specialist on historic buildings, Chas Symes, a Burrator parish councillor, Chris France of Dartmoor National Park Authority and Edwina and Robin Hill of the Belstone Green Village Project. The debate will be chaired by Dr Tom Greeves, chairman of the Dartmoor Society. Dr Greeves said: ?This will be the tenth of the highly successful annual Dartmoor Society public debates. ?It will be a mix of well-informed and stimulating presentations, combined with ample time for general discussion, in the setting of a fascinating village which demonstrates most of the issues common to numerous Dartmoor settlements.?
