OKEHAMPTON'S Fairtrade Group celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight on Saturday with a special fair and coffee morning.

The Fairtrade Fortnight initiative runs nationally from February 23 to March 8, promoting the values and benefits of Fairtrade produce.

The fair at All Saints Church Hall on Saturday celebrated those values with a Traidcraft stall and the Just Living stall, which also sells Fairtrade produce from Palestine.

The event also hosted a Fairtrade Bake-Off competition, inviting entrants to bake a cake or sweet treat using at least two Fairtrade products or products sourced locally. Students from Okehampton College also baked cakes using Fairtrade produce for the occasion.

Cynthia Higbee from the Fairtrade group said: 'The event was well supported and a good opportunity to remind ourselves of the difference our shopping choices can make to those at home and abroad.

'The group would like to thank the catering students of Okehampton College who baked cakes for sale with the coffee served, the Co-op who supplied resources for the event and two bottles of Fairtrade wine for the raffle, Hallwood's who still run their vegetable box scheme were also generous in supplying a vegetable box for the event.

'Thanks to all those who supported us on the morning.'
