PETER Tavy's church bells will ring out to welcome visitors to the village's traditional fayre this weekend, which opens at 2.30pm on Monday August 25.

There will be something to entertain all the family in a beautiful setting on the edge of Dartmoor.

In the village hall and chapel, visitors will find delicious home-made refreshments and traditional games — including a coconut shy and skittles.

Stalls will offer a wide array of goods including home-made cakes; jams and preserves and garden produce and plants.

Bargain hunters can have fun searching through the white elephants on the Granny's attic stall, and checking out the second-hand books.

There will also be demonstrations of traditional skills, fascinating displays and a grand prize raffle, tombola and a duck race down the Colley Brook which runs through the village.

Visitors should also keep an eye out for the scarecrows — entries in the annual Peter Tavy competition, which will be on display throughout the parish in the week leading up to the fayre.

During the afternoon, the three-mile 'Peter Tavy plod' foot race starts at 3.30pm from the village square – for more details, contact Dave Chanter on 01822 810598.

This year, the fayre will also be hosting the eighth annual meeting of the 'Dartmoor Teddy Bears' Dangerous Sports Association'.

In previous years, teddy bears who have come along with their owners have had the opportunity to try out bungee jumping from the church tower; speeding down a commando-style death slide; being launched from a medieval siege catapult; flying in a rocket; ski jumping; wing walking on a barn-storming biplane and even experiencing a Tardis ride!

This year's activity is still top secret, but all teddies are welcome to try out another spectacular test of nerve!

The fayre day will finish with a pasties and quiz evening in the village hall.

Fayre proceeds will be split between Peter Tavy Village Hall, the church and chapel.
