Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 cup first round
Mary Tavy 2
St Giles 1
THE 5-1 win earlier in the season seemed an age away as Mary Tavy found a St Giles team hungry for victory.
It took 13 minutes for the match to produce its first goal, C Bennet finishing off a move with a delicate lob to put St Giles ahead.
Tavy replied with some flowing movements and on several occasions the equaliser looked imminent, but the Saints keeper was in no mood to let the lead slip.
Patience was the game for the home team and midway through the second half Dan Brockington eventually broke down the St Giles solid defence. Chances fell to both teams to seal the win inside the 90 but the game was destined to be settled in extra time.
The onlookers did not have to wait long as Brockington scored what was to be the winner after only a few minutes of the restart to dampen the hope of the tiring away team and allowed Tavy to play out time to reach the next round.
