MEMBERS of Tavistock Flower Club this month celebrated 45 years of its existence with a lunch at the St Mellion Golf and Country Club. Guests of honour were Mrs Olive Jacobs-Price and Mrs Val Palfrey, president and chairman respectively of the Devon and Cornwall Area of NAFAS, Mrs Cynthia Willcocks NAFAS associate of honour and past chairman of the National Federation, and Cllr Jenny Metcalf, mayor of Tavistock. They were joined by representatives of neighbouring clubs from Plymouth, Plympton, Saltash and Tamar Valley. Mrs Winnie Bond watched by Mrs Mary Newcombe, two of the original founder members, cut the celebration cake made, iced and decorated by Mrs Vivienne Thompson, chairman. The gathering enjoyed a delightful fashion show organised by Mrs Richards of Marianne Fashions of Saltash and Kelly Bray. Club president Mrs Nita Keast presented cups for the year, and thanked all who had organised the occasion, particularly the club chairman, then the staff at St Mellion, Marianne Fashions and the many local businesses, Bridget Foley, Mirrors, A Scent-Sation, Spirit of Silver, Todds and Trecanna Nurseries who had generously donated prizes for the raffle ? proceeds all went to the club?s charity for the year, the Duchess of Bedford?s Tavistock Trust for Aphasia.
