OKEHAMPTON firefighters were involved in a roof-top rescue after being called out to Bude on Monday night (August 16) to provide stand-by cover while other crews tackled devastating floods on the North Cornwall coast.
An appliance from Okehampton was stationed in Bude from 7pm when the weather began to worsen and dealt with numerous emergency incidents relating to flooding around the Strands area of Bude and the town?s industrial site.
The Okehampton crew assisted with the rooftop rescue of two people from a house at Hele Bridge at Widemouth Bay.
The two people were winched to safety from their roof by an RAF search and rescue helicopter.
The crew dealt with a number of flooding incidents throughout the night before being relieved at around 2am.
