AN EAST Cornwall resident is intent on cycling, jogging and swimming her way to fitness — and raising £500 for charity in the process.

Bakery assistant at Callington Tesco Chrissie Dawe, 34, will be taking on a 'Tesco Try-athlon' — three events in aid of three different charities throughout the year.

The Try-athlon comprises a 22-mile swim for Diabetes UK this month, a 5km Race For Life in June for Cancer Research UK as a warm up to the first Race for Life half marathon in London in October and a 27-mile bike ride for the British Heart Foundation in September.

Chrissie, who plays netball once a week for the Harrowbarrow Hornets, said: 'All of these diseases are quite common within my family. Three out of four of my grandparents had cancer, I have an aunt with diabetes and a cousin who's had two heart attacks at the age of 24!

'Tesco set a challenge and it was on my bucket list to one day do a triathlon. My New Year's resolution was to eat healthily. I'm trying to stay fit and active and this was the ideal opportunity.

'My target is £500 but the aim is to raise as much money as possible. The guideline is to raise £150 per event. I'd love it if people could sponsor me at 10p per mile — 65 miles in total. If people were able to do that, that would be fantastic.

'It's a big personal challenge and I hope that we can make it a big success for the three charities.'
