HOW I agree with the letters concerning that very traditional English meal of fish and chips, no longer available at Yelverton. It was such a treat to get an occasional meal on our doorstep instead of travelling into Roborough or Tavistock. Now this hardworking family man who lives locally is being denied the opportunity of making an honest living within our locality. I can assure the 40 odd people who objected (out of the many hundreds who didn?t!) that the car parking at Yelverton has been a nightmare for years and the church car park very often hasn?t got a single space left in it because many people use it as a ?park and ride?. The litter is caused by visitors (Just look at the airfield). As for the ?undesirable social activity? the chips will attract, that goes on here already ? drugs, sex etc around the airfield. Yelverton badly needs upgrading. It has had a Chinese Takeaway and has got an Indian Takeaway (neither of which appeals to me), so what is wrong with a little bit of England ? our traditional fish and chips? I would ask Dartmoor National Park to give local people what they want for a change. If the owner?s van is so out of place, he could have a shop on the Parade, perhaps with some tables to serve cups of tea to the countless people waiting for their bus to the various villages.
