TAVISTOCK Golf Club Ladies played the first round of the Mail on Sunday competition at Staddon on Sunday February 8.
The Tavistock squad are: Beverley Ruth, Nicky Gorman, Kerry Gorman and Victoria Coe. Elaine Cooper and Sharon Williams are reserves. Captain of the squad is Marjorie Greening.
The event took place on a sunny but cold day with strong winds. After 18 holes the two teams were neck and neck, two wins and two losses each.
Victoria Coe and Barbara Perriton of Staddon had to play the 19th hole in a sudden death play-off. Both had good drives, but Barbara put her second shot into the greenside bunker.
Victoria played a brilliant shot with her 4 iron and landed on the green only five feet from the pin, resulting in an excellent win for Tavistock.
