THE title and honour of Photographer of the Year at Okehampton Camera Club was last week bestowed upon Lee Rudd, who saw his pictures score a remarkable 92 points out of a possible 100. Lee, an experienced and talented photographer, said: 'Although I was confident my images were the best I had taken this year, I was competing against an improving standard of photography in Okehampton Camera Club, in particular from the less experienced members.' At the beginning of the season, camera club members were given eight categories including abstract, natural history and photojournalism to enter. They then had to produce one image in five of the categories. Each image was judged out of 20 points by Ken Holland of the Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club. Club spokesman Tracey Norman praised the high standard of the submissions which was made even more challenging because all the images had to be new work. She said: 'The majority of members entered the competition and everyone had obviously given a lot of thought to the images they chose to enter.' This is the first year the camera club has run this type of competition. Chairman Rex Haythornthwaite said: 'I was pleased that so many members entered this new and challenging competition. 'Ken Holland's constructive comments were much appreciated, as was his decision that Lee Rudd was the winner.' The camera club would also like to extend their congratulations to Karin Hewlett and Derek Stratton who came second and third with 89 and 82 points respectively.
