WHITCHURCH Ladies played their first league match of the season on Sunday May 7, at Sandford, with nine players. They lost the toss and were required to field first. With only four mainstream bowlers, Gillian Northey and Ali Evans shared the remaining seven overs with great confidence. Ali Evans was bowling when Sandford opener, Pauline Black was stumped for 84. Cath Amore took a spectacular catch at mid on and Gaynor Pollard (wicket keeper) stumped two players. There was some great fielding from Cath Griffin, Jenny Kay, Ange Hunt, Lesley Smith, and Debbie Taylor. Sandford finally scored 180 off 35 overs. Whitchurch, then in fading light, went into bat, and scored a creditible 151 runs. Lesley Smith opened and scored the top score of 45 not out. Other scores were achieved by Cath Griffin 0-20; Ange Hunt 3-38; Lesley Smith 2-19; Jenny Kay 1-38. Team photo left to right (back row) Coach Steve Hodge, Cath Griffin, Lesley Smith, Gaynor Pollard.
