THIS year has been a great year for Ju Jitsu Tavistock according to its founder Umberto Bergonzini. ?2007 was kicked off in style with another successful self-defence course for women and the introduction of new classes for young people between the age of 12 and 15,? said Umberto. Members took part in an international summer camp in Italy joining almost 300 martial artists from Poland, Germany and obviously Italy, while in September a new club was launched in Launceston. He said: ?I?m really proud of what the club has achieved so far but its biggest accomplish-ment has to be Robert Curtis being the first student from the Tavistock club to have received the coveted black belt. ?Robert has been training with me for five years. His hard work, determination and dedication to Ju Jitsu paid off when he was put forward for his black belt grading examination and he passed with flying colours. Robert definitely did me and his fellow students proud.? The club, which meets at the Scout Hall in Pixon Lane, has been steadily growing and now has 60 members training and taking part in the various club activities and is ready to welcome new students who wish to join. The club meets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Anyone interested in joining can contact Umberto on 07866 720361 or come to a class.
