STAFF from the Environment Agency and West Devon Borough Council were on hand to answer questions from the public in Okehampton on Thursday, on the topic of floods. Their flooding ?roadshow? was based in the car parks of Somerfield and Waitrose supermarkets. Among the problems discussed were surface water and drainage issues. ?We are eager to promote the message that although flooding cannot be prevented, there are ways in which the damage and distress that it causes can be limited,? said Adele Needham, flood incident management officer for EA. The exhibition showed the public the different types of flooding, who can help and what warnings are available. Property and business owners at risk are urged to visit the exhibition for advice or contact Floodline 0845 988 1188. She told the Times: ?As well as alert people to the services which the Environment Agency and West Devon Borough Council provide in the area, we are also sharing information with the community. ?The more information people tell us about flooding in the area, the more tailored we can design our flood warnings to help them.? The agency is appealing for the people of West Devon to come forward with information about flooding in the area. Do you have a flood knowledge about your community, videos or pictures of flooding, or have kept record? Do you know of forgotton or filled in watercourses?
