THE popular Fireshow, due to celebrate its 25th anniversary at Sticklepath this year, is in danger of being cancelled if new volunteers are not found in the next two weeks. Fireshow chair Janice Goodwin said: 'For various personal reasons a large proportion of the committee have recently had to leave. 'Although our attempts to recruit new members have met with some success, we cannot hold this year's show unless further key positions are filled. 'Planning for this year's spectacular anniversary show is fully underway. However, we have had to take the decision to hold an extraordinary general meeting on Monday August 4 at 7.30pm in Sticklepath Village Hall, at which point if not enough volunteers have come forward, either before or at the meeting, then this year's show will have to be cancelled. 'It would be a crying shame if this show, loved by thousands in the crowd and the hundreds of children who have performed in it over the last 24 years, were to be at risk for sake of a few extra organisers.' The benefits of Fireshow to everyone involved, in particular children, are many and varied, she said. People gain self-esteem and confidence, a sense of community and learn new skills as well as having a good time. Fireshow is open to all, adults and children alike, and there is no prerequisite to live in Sticklepath. Fireshow needs people to cover the roles of secretary, chief marshal, PR and marketing, wood collection and volunteers to help the builder construct the stage. There is plenty of expert advice on hand at all times. Janice added: 'I am making this urgent plea for people to come forward and help us put on the 25th show for all the above reasons. 'I would urge anyone who loves the show to get in touch before the extraordinary general meeting or to come along on the night and find out more.
