THE future of the Sticklepath Fireshow is burning brighter after new faces joined the organising committee and more fireshow trustees have been co-opted. Last year's show, which would have been the 30th anniversary of the event, was cancelled following a number of difficulties throughout the year — but the team which has been behind previous shows have been hard at work to bring the event back to Sticklepath. At the show annual general meeting on April 2, the organising committee recruited several new members, and at a subsequent meeting, new trustees were also recruited, meaning the show looks far more likely to go ahead this year. However, some of the same challenges that led to the 2013 show's cancellation are still to be overcome. One of those is finding wood appropriate for the show's stage. Becci Hardie, helping to organise the fireshow, said: 'Despite the support received so far the continuation of the fireshow beyond 2014 is very much in the balance as we still need volunteers to help us with all things fireshow, big or small, skilled and non-skilled alike. 'The theme is still top secret, but as always we need donations of good quality second hand building timber for the stage set. 'Are you planning any renovations, a barn conversion or roof work this year? People may not realise that timber from their house can be hugely useful, and we can take it now. 'If you are an adult who took part in the fireshow as a child why not consider taking this opportunity to pass on the opportunity to the next generation? 'We often hear about how our communities are not as friendly these days. 'Come and get involved and help make your community even stronger.' Held at the National Trust's Finch Foundry field, the event has attracted up to 3,000 visitors in the past, although 2012 saw a dip in visitor numbers. As well as a firework display, there is a dramatic production, taking Guy Fawkes on an adventure before he ends up on the bonfire. Sticklepath Fireshow is primarily a charity which also runs summer and autumn creative workshops for children, providing them with fun activities and learning opportunities during their school holidays. This year's event is being planned to take place on Saturday, November 1.
