FIREFIGHTERS from North Tawton were called to help with a blaze at a barn in Yarcombe, near Barnstaple, last Thursday. The crews were called out to the blaze at around 9pm on Wednesday night and did not leave the scene until 5am on Thursday. A large quantity of hay, straw and machinery was destroyed. The crews also attended a fire at the old cider works at Winkleigh on Monday lunchtime. Station officer Twiggy Lake said the fire was in a resin sprayer unit at the works. Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereels to extinguish the blaze. ?The fumes were highly toxic,? said Mr Lake.
