FIRE broke out at a shed storing plastic fittings at Kaminski?s Builders? Merchants in Parkwood Road, Tavistock, yesterday morning (Wednesday).

Two Tavistock fire appliances were called to Kaminski?s builders? yard at 10.41am. The timber shed, measuring approximately three metres by six was well alight when crews arrived at the scene.

Two breathing apparatus sets and two main jets and two hose reel jets were used to get the blaze under control.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze within 15 to 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading to an adjoining warehouse.

Owner Tony Kaminski said the shed had been used for storing a number of plastic fittings which proved to be highly flammable when the building caught light. ?It just went up so quickly and was well alight,? he said. ?It went up like a tinderbox.?

He estimated around £2,000 worth of materials had been destroyed in the blaze.

The shed was the original base for Kaminski?s when the firm began operating in Tavistock many years ago.
