A PRINCETOWN firefighter's only means of transport was stolen from his front porch only to be returned less than 36 hours later by a thief with a conscious. Andrew Steele relies on his custom-built mountain bike to get him to Princetown Fire Station as quickly as possible in an emergency. But between 7.20pm last Friday and 1.15pm the following day it was stolen from his home at Burrator Avenue. A non-driver, Andrew relies on his bike, a yellow and silver GT model which he bought two years ago, so he conducted house to house enquiries in a bid to find out what had happened to it. On Sunday morning he awoke to find his bike, undamaged, back in its original position. PC Colin Taylor is appealing for information to find out where it went: 'Lots of people knew about this crime so was it returned by a thief whose conscious was pricked or did someone else return it? We would like to know,' he said. Anyone who can help is being urged to call PC Taylor on 08452 777444, quoting crime reference JT/07/63.
