HATHERLEIGH firefighters raised more than £400 by washing cars at a charity car wash held at the town?s fire station last Saturday week.
The car wash raised £328 for the Fire Service Benevolent Fund, more than £80 was also raised by a jumble sale on the day.
Firefighter Owen Ravenscroft said he had been surprised by the popularity of the event. ?It was a really busy day, we did not stop from ten o?clock until the afternoon,? he said.
Mr Ravenscroft thanked the Bridge Street Garage and Charlie?s Fish and Chip shop as well as everyone who came along and made a donation to have their car washed.
l Okehampton firefighters raised £460 recently by holding a charity car wash.
The money raised will be split between the Fire Service Benevolent Fund and a couple of local charities to be chosen by the crew.
They expressed thanks to Waitrose for their support and everyone who took their car along on the Saturday morning..
