TAVISTOCK fire brigade has organised a car wash to raise money for the families of firefighters who died trying to rescue victims of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York.
The car wash will be held this Sunday at Safeway, Tavistock, from 10am to 4pm.
Bere Alston, Princetown and Yelverton fire stations have all been invited to get involved in the charity car wash. The firemen will work in relay teams all day.
Phil Griffiths, from Tavistock fire station, said firefighters across the world always helped one another at times of crisis, and with as many as 300 firefighters believed to have died in emergency operations following the attack on New York, everyone in the service felt it was important to do something.
Residents in Bere Alston have begun collecting through local shops and businesses to benefit families who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks on America.
There will be collections taking place around the Bere peninsula over the next few weeks.
The organisers of the Bere Alston collection will present the money raised to the local fire brigade.
The funds will go into the Devon Fire and Rescue Services USA appeal fund and will be sent to the Mayor of New York for the benefit of the families and dependents of those killed in the attack on the World Trade Centre.
