THE team at children's charity CHICKS this week said they were devastated by recent news that the venue for the charity's annual winter ball had been damaged by a major fire.

The Holiday Inn, Plymouth was the venue for the ball, due to be held this Saturday.

Jenny Paton, regional fundraising manager said: 'We were shocked by the news of this fire, thankfully no one was injured. Having tried to relocate the event without success we have decided to postpone until January 2011.

'This is a very worrying time for CHICKS and we were desperate for this event to go ahead in order to ensure many more places for the children who come on a life-changing break. However, we were unable to relocate on the same date and want to stay with the Holiday Inn and hope that our supporters will stay with us and support us in January.

'Everything will remain in place for another outstanding evening with live music, great food and many fantastic raffle prizes and auction lots all donated. Depending on how many supporters are able to make our new date we still have tickets available and need your support now, more than ever.'
