A CAPACITY crowd enjoyed a spectacular Sticklepath Fireshow last Saturday evening.

The weather was excellent for Okehampton and district's MAJOR Guy Fawkes night event, A Frightful Fantasy.

With more than 30 local children dressed as skeletons, ghosts, witches and various other scary characters, the pre-firework play was enacted against a backdrop of a very spooky building indeed, 'Dunscarin', which of course was later burnt as the bonfire element of the show.

The fireshow's chairman, Janice Goodwin, expressed her thanks to the many locals who helped make the event a success.

She added: 'Unfortunately at the last moment we had to turn a number of people away as we had reached our licensed capacity of 3,000 spectators.

'This was very upsetting, but if we allowed people in over this number our licence could be revoked and the insurance would not be valid.

'We most certainly would not be allowed to continue the event next year. To avoid disappointment in the future, the tickets are on sale for at least two weeks before the event.

'We always keep 500 tickets to sell on the night and in good weather these will go early.

'Once again our apologies to those who were disappointed but our hands are tied.'

Janice said it was also unfortunate that due to circumstances beyond the organisers' and coach company's control, a long wait for buses from Okehampton also caused frustration.

'We offer our sincere apologies to those who had to wait longer than anticipated,' added Janice.
