SOME 25 charities enjoyed a showcase event in Tavistock last weekend, organised by the town's Lions Club.
The community fayre was held in the grounds of Tavistock College and provided a fun day out for all the family, with entertainment, music and refreshments.
Children from Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School held a display of country dancing and there was also dancing from the Cataclews ceilidh band, plus a beer tent run by Tavistock Rotary Club.
A number of hot air balloonists also attended although unfortunately, the day was too breezy for the balloons to make an ascent.
Lions club spokesman Steve Grummitt said: 'We were very pleased with the event — it was a nice sunny day and dry, and provided a good vehicle for the charities to raise money.
'We were pleased with the response from the public for a first time event and I think it's something we would like to build on, and get even more charities involved in the future.'
Mr Grummitt extended thanks to staff at Tavistock College, particularly Linda Coe, for help in setting up the event.
l Found during the clear up after the fayre was a child's Ladybird jacket — anyone who lost such a jacket can contact Steve Grummitt on 01822 615526.
