I UNDERSTAND that a special council meeting will be held next Tuesday September 12 to consider the planning application for the proposed supermarket in School Way.

With work already started on the next 75 houses behind the rugby field the prospect of gridlock in Market Street is assured if this application is approved.

The obvious place for a third supermarket is east of the town where maximum development is taking place.

More to the point, though, this is the last chance to do something to improve the character of Okehampton for future generations.

A worthwhile project would be to bring the library out of its obscure back street and put it into an accessible and nice setting by the river.
