TEN lucky pupils from South Tawton Primary will run out onto the turf at Exeter Chiefs' Sandy Park to compete in a regional rugby final, following their success at the Okehampton area Tag Rugby Festival.

Pupils in Years 3 and 4 were lucky enough to receive training sessions from the Exeter Chiefs rugby team.

After the sessions a team of ten players were chosen to represent the school at the Okehampton Tag Rugby Festival. The team won all three of their group matches, before successfully winning in the final. They will now represent the Okehampton area at a regional final, played at Sandy Park in March or April before a home game.

Nikki Hutchings, a teacher at the school and team coach, said: 'I am over the moon about the team doing so well. It is the second time the school have had a team in the finals at Sandy Park, and it is a great achievement for the school.

'The kids are all very excited about going to Sandy Park, and so am I. It should be a great day.'

Tom Pike, one of the team's players, said: 'We had good tagging, we played good passes, and we got on really well as a team.

'We all played good positions, and everyone played really well, and it was really good fun.'

Eva Hodgson, one of Tom's teammates, said: 'It felt really good to win the final. I am really excited about going to the Exeter Chiefs and playing, it will be a lot of fun.

'I really liked training with the Chiefs, and I now really like playing rugby.'
