Tavistock 7 Plymouth Marjon 1 TAVISTOCK Men?s 2nd hockey team captain Honey could not have wished for a better start to his league campaign. Travelling with a squad of 14, strength and depth was the order of the day, even loosing Edwards and Cowen with questions over their match fitness- substitutions were effective. The first of these substitutions saw Honey Jnr score within minutes of joining the team, opening what was to become an impressive score line. Plymouth Marjon fielded a predominantly youthful side that showed keen spirit throughout, with a controlled play that belied their years. Unfortunately for Marjon?s, Tavistock?s newly formed 2nd team are fast becoming a gelled unit with Costello keeping the defence of Rodda, and Manley in good order, picking off the attack time after time. Half time found Tavistock 2-0 up after a deserved goal from new forward Kelly, who gave the Plymouth defence trouble throughout, linking with the experience of Andrews time and time again. Read and Cooley Jnr took impressive control in the middle and provided Andrews with his second half hat-trick. Keeper Osborne was only tested sporadically, showing good command of his ?D?. Unfortunately beaten by a wicked deflection from defender Manley?s stick, providing Plymouth with what turned out to be their consolation goal. Half backs of Frost and Honey constantly working the ball forward enabling the legs of Holland to penetrate the Plymouth defence and work Honey Jnr for another goal. Frost?s composure and attacking play were rewarded with a well deflected goal in the dying minutes bringing the Tavistock tally to seven. Tavistock Second XI at home on Saturday to Truro at Kelly College 4:40pm.
