ULTRA distance runner Bob Brown, 36, from Callington, is now in his final week of his latest endurance record attempt of running across the European Community (over 3,000 miles). The Ginsters sponsored athlete is now just 350 miles from his finishing point. His amazing quest has seen him run through Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia before finally concluding at the Russian border this coming Sunday. The exhausting run has taken Bob just 55 days, running on average 55 miles a day to reach his finishing point. The run has been physically the most strenuous race of Bob?s career. He has gone through 9 pairs of trainers and lost over 2 stone in body weight. However Bob is adamant that whilst this run has been physically challenging, the real battle for him has been the psychological element of the run. ?To run 55 miles a day is asking a lot of your body but you learn to manage and control elements of the pain whereas the mental side of the run is a lot harder to control and has at times been a massive struggle to me. ?When you look at a map and realise that you still have hundreds of miles to run across many more countries it becomes almost impossible to envisage a finish line or a light at the end of the tunnel. ?This is the toughest side of endurance running and I will consider this run the most challenging experience of my career so far. To have overcome the psychological barriers that this run has thrown at me has not been easy but fills me with pride now that I have the Russian border firmly in my sights,? said Bob. Bob has proved over the last 5 years that he is one of the world?s finest endurance runners, competing in The race of Fire in Australia which saw him run across the entire country, starting in Perth and finishing in Canberra followed by his success last year in running from Los Angeles and finishing his run across America in New York. Added to this are wins in other tough competitions such as this year?s Grand Union Canal Race (145 miles in under 30 hours) and the Tresco marathon. All this highlights really how tough this run must have been. Bob is running for the charity CHICKS and is proudly sponsored by Ginsters.
