Tavistock AFC U18s 0 Staddiscombe U18s 2 TAVISTOCK deserved something out of this game but could not get hold of the match. Staddiscombe were strong in midfield but fine defending from Wallace, Lake, Francis and Marks closed them down. Play was end to end and Tavistock had their chances, but both keepers were on form. Jones and Wellard in midfield had their work cut out with some big Staddiscombe players but wingers Hammond and Court started cutting through the defence. Maddock and Phillips linked up but after some near misses it was Wellard on the volley who had the best chance. Shortly before half-time, Court crossed in to see Wellard pushed off balance, the ball fell to Hammond who stormed in but the shot went over. The second half saw Goldsby-West join play and Tavistock started creating chances. A poor challenge saw a Staddiscombe player booked and frustration crept in from both sides. Silly free kicks gave Staddiscombe the opportunity to strike back but Wearing's safe hands kept the team in the game. The goal came when Tavistock could not clear the ball and a superb strike beat Wearing. Tavistock fought back and were unlucky not to even the score. Gibbon came on and his strong challenges saw the ball pushed upfield. Court linked well with Goldsby-West but shots went wide. Tavistock had plenty of chances to even the score but a goalmouth scramble saw the ball poked over the line for Staddiscombe.
