Devon Cup
Tavistock Ladies 2
ECVH 1
TAVISTOCK knew this was going to be a tough game of hockey as the opposition are in a higher league.
Tavistock made some strong attacks and the tackles of Kath Collar. Susannah Harland and Steff Mills allowed the forward line to be a real threat.
Judy Mills and Laura Armstrong worked well on the left hand side and had some good runs into the D.
Despite this, Tavistock could just not get the ball into the goal and the first goal was awarded to ECVH as they drew the midfield of Tavistock all over the pitch allowing a break.
Tavistock pulled out all the stops and worked hard defensively to stop more opposition players creeping into the D.
Babs Horton, Fiona Dunn and Rebecca Creasy worked well together and gave good calls to the rest of the team in order to prevent major attacks.
Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock, which were taken well and Susannah Harland and Laura Armstrong had some good shots at goal. Harland and Collar narrowly missed and hit the post. A good ball was hit up the pitch by Becky Hutton and Miller was able to hit it across the D allowing Bowden to run in and equalise.
The second half showed a
confident and skilful Tavistock. Gawman, Bowden and Mills started to put pressure on the opposition on the right, forcing them to start moving the ball all over the pitch. Dunn and Horton constantly shadowed one of ECVH?s stronger players and prevented them from penetrating the 16-yard line. Rebecca Creasy had another good game, saving some hard shots and watching key players.
A good ball in from Armstrong allowed Miller to take a shot at goal. Bowden got on the end of the ball and helped to slot it past the keeper.
Player of the match: Babs Horton.
This week Tavistock are away to Falmouth 2.
