Jewson South Western League
Tavistock 2
St Blazey 1
THE Lambs recorded their best result of the season with this victory over the league leaders and title contenders at Langsford Park last Wednesday.
They were without four regulars with Andy Parnowski and Chris Gott through work, the suspended Mark Wall and injured Lee Cansfield. Back came John Gosling from holiday, Tony Cusack from injury, Adrian Payne stepped up from the subs bench, Rob Hawkins was drafted in from the P & D side and Stuart Rickeard from Weston Mill sat on the bench.
Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds was soon in action putting a deflected shot around a post on eight minutes, Chris Kiely shot wide two minutes later and it was the Lambs who took the lead on 13 minutes.
The Saints disputed a corner kick for the Lambs and when John Nichols' cross came over Dave Philp dropped it and Gosling was on hand to smash it into the net from close range.
Five minutes later from another corner the ball came out to Craig Hodge to slam it back for Philp, again to drop it but this time Gosling's shot hit the keeper and was cleared to safety.
The Saints piled on the pressure and forced a series of corners and free kicks around the half-hour mark but the Lambs defence held firm until half-time.
George Pitts replaced the injured Hawkins after the break. Meeds was soon in action again, foiling Glynn Hooper from putting the Saints back on level terms and on the hour came the goal of the game.
The Lambs broke out of defence quickly to send Nichols down the wing to cut inside and send a 25-yard shot that had Philp clutching at thin air.
A minute later there were strong appeals for a penalty as Gosling was sent tumbling on the edge of the area but the free kick was awarded just outside and Dean Tongue's cross was headed onto the bar by Pitts.
Gosling was replaced by Steve Daymond after 70 minutes and with the Lambs in control the floodlights failed with just 12 minutes remaining. A ten-minute delay and it was St Blazey who switched on the quicker and six minutes later got a goal back as Dale Band shot from close range through a crowd of players.
The visitors went all out for an equaliser but it was the Lambs who finished the stronger as Kiely and Daymond combined to allow Pitts to shoot across goal only to see it hit the far post and come back across the area and cleared.
A tremendous all-round performance by the Lambs that will hopefully set them up for the remainder of the season.
Team: Andy Meeds, Rob Hawkins(sub George Pitts 45m), John Nichols, Lee Beer, Craig Hodge, Darren Babb, Adrian Payne, Tony Cusack, John Gosling (sub Steve Daymond 70m) Chris Kiely, Dean Tongue. Sub not used Stuart Rickeard.

THE Lambs' revival continued with this 'away' win at Langsford Park against the nomadic Parkway. It was the first time they had recorded a victory against their opponents since they joined the league three seasons ago.
The Lambs capitalised five minutes before the break when Darren Babb's through-ball sent Dean Tongue racing clear with the Parkway defence appealing in vain for offside. His first shot was saved by the keeper but he was powerless to stop the follow up.
There was an early second half double substitution with George Pitts and Steve Daymond replacing Adrian Payne and Nicholson on 53 minutes.
Parkway put the Lambs under pressure but the offside trap was again beaten with 15 minutes left when Chris Kiely's through-ball let in Daymond to slot home from 12 yards.
Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds kept the scoresheet blank when on 85 minutes he pulled off a great save from Virgil Igalawuye.

THE Lambs finished Easter with a 100 per cent record and 10 points out of a possible 12.
They took the lead in the third minute. John Gosling and Daymond combined John Nichols to cross to the far post for Tony Cusack to volley home.
The home side turned the screw from then on and after several missed chances scored on the half-hour. Craig Hodge put Dean Tongue away down the right and his cross found Daymond unmarked in the area to slot pass Andy Angove.
The visitors found themselves down to 10 men when Steve Coggin saw red when a free kick was awarded to Tavistock after referee Ian Mckinnock made a mistake and changed his mind. Coggin chose to kick the ball at him and it was an early bath for the full back.
The Lambs increased their lead after 55 minutes. Tongue was chopped down late for the referee to award a penalty. Up stepped Cusack to add to his first with a well placed spot kick.
