IT has been a brilliant season for the Ladies of Okehampton Golf Club ? a club with so few players ? to have reached the finals in the 2 County Competitions was wonderful. They have now really surpassed all expectations by reaching the semi finals in the Devon League as well! Kay King led her side to victory at Hele Park on August 23,though they lost the match, the first loss this season, they won the all important 6 pts needed to pip Saunton by 4 pts, for a place in the Semi Finals. Rachel Spry and Kath Mansell won with Lin Atkinson,Trish Vick, Kay King and Jane Warren losing and Sally Griffin reserve won. This is a wonderful achievement for the ladies as they only have just enough ladies to field three teams and when someone can?t play have to incorporate a player from another team. Which is made more difficult by the rules of the league and County that no one player may play more than twice for any other team other than the one they are named for. The juniors of Okehampton Golf Club have been busy with matches and their Spring Meeting. The Williamson Trophy for 28 hcp and under was won by Dan Curtis with 39 pts, second was Jonny Rattenbury 37pts on back 3 countback. The Band A players 29 to 36 hcp, were competing for the Elizabeth Ann Shield, this was won by Will Serle with 32 pts. Kieran Mitchel won nearest the pin on the 12th, in this competition and Dan Curtis won nearest the pin on the 15th in the Williamson Trophy. They have also played 2 matches, both away fixtures, on 16th it was Sidmouth and with Jonny Rattenbury captain for the day they had an emphatic win with Jonny winning 2 up, Olly Kirby winning 5-3, Darren Curtis winning 4-3 and Adam Clark also winning 4-3. Keiran Mitchel playing his first match was the unlucky loser. On the 19th they went to Tiverton where Jonny Rattenbury halved his match and Rachel Spry (back in Captain?s roll) won 6-4. The rest of the team Olly Kirby, Dan Curtis, Jonny Weller and Adam Clark lost. This means that they are now joint leaders with Tiverton with the deciding match of the league played at home on Bank Holiday Monday. The veterans section continued their great season with a 5 1/2-1/2 win over Bude. President?s day on Saturday attracted a full field and the scores were close. Results were winning Division 1 Keith Harkness 41pts (last 6), 2nd Kevin Perryman 41 pts (back 9), 3rd Steve Hill 41pts, 4th Adam Cook 40pts (winning the President cup for best scratch score) and 5th Horace Floyd 39pts (back 9).
