Horrabridge has played host to a huge number of festive events this year.

On December 15, 100 bags of mince pies and cream were delivered to residents for the community’s monthly ‘Neighbour Nominations.’ Organised by Ali Mansfield and assisted by Sandra Parris and Flynn Burke who wrote cards and bagged items up, Julie Northam and Jade Friend then delivered the bags and checked on neighbours.

Also on this day, Ali and Janet Hearl helped to distribute around 120 boxes of pies to members of the community which were spared from being wasted.

On December 18, the village hosted a Santa’s Grotto event. From 4.30-7pm, families and children queued to enter ’Santa’s Grotto’ at a property on Youlden Way. Over 250 biscuits were baked, chocolates were donated and then, with hot drinks, served to children and families by volunteers along with 300 gift bags which were packaged and given to children which included a sweet treat, a storybook or an activity book (depending on age), a hanging decoration, bouncy balls or threading kits, fruit and an information booklet for parents on how to make Christmas even more special this year. These bags were also delivered to the homes of those who could not attend the event.

On December 20, the Horrabridge Cavaliers were made aware of a local family whose freezer had just broken. They bought them a new freezer and also gave them a £60 supermaket gift card to allow them to fill it up in time for Christmas. In the evening, carol singing took place at different locations around the village to bring festive cheer and joy to everyone.

On December 23, 100 free christmas dinners were delivered to residents of the village throughout the afternoon under the direction of the Love Your Neighbour initiative.
