TAVISTOCK Hockey Club's mixed Christmas game, a family-based fun event, attracted its highest turn out ever for the match at Kelly College all weather pitch last Saturday.

More than 50 players from all five club teams, plus guests, turned out in variety of costumes to support the three captains for the day, Carl Jeffery, Fiona Dunn and John Barratt.

Taking part and enjoying a fun session of hockey was the main aim of the event, rather than winning, and it was good to see more experienced players encouraging their much younger counterparts.

After some energetic play on a partly frozen pitch, players and spectators retired to the Trout and Tipple, who kindly sponsor the club, for refreshments. Many thanks to the team at The Trout for their support.

This year is a particularly important milestone for Tavistock Hockey Club, established in 1948 and celebrating 60 years of hockey.

Further celebrations are anticipated at the end of the 2008/9 season on the back of a most successful testimonial match last season for club member, Roger Young, who had been playing hockey for 60 years.

• Training begins again on Thursday, January 8. and juniors on Sunday, January 11, at Kelly College astro pitch. The club look forward to welcoming new members to this sociable and successful club.
