THERE is still another time to enjoy the Christmas displays at the National Trust's Buckland Abbey, garden and estate.

The abbey is open daily from 11am to 4.30pm until December 23.

Tish Valva, visitor services officer, said: 'If you visit Buckland Abbey at this time of year, you'll be able to imagine what it must have been like to celebrate the season centuries ago.'

With the kitchen fire lit, Great Hall traditionally decorated and the table awash with Victorian sweet treats, visiting Buckland Abbey at Christmas lets guests experience a little of what Christmas was in times gone by.

Father Christmas will be in his grotto on Saturday and Sunday, December 22 and 23, for an extra £2.

On Saturday December 22, visitors can indulge their artistic abilities at a calligraphy and decorated letters event in the abbey from 11am to 4pm at no extra charge. Christmas lunches will be served next to the blazing wood burner in the newly-refurbished 14th century restaurant at the weekend. Booking is essential.
