THE local branch of a national charity is appealing to people's festive generosity to help them through a busy period.
Okehampton and District Cats Protection has put out an appeal for unwanted cat food rather than money this Christmas.
Branch co-ordinator Pat Sawyer said: 'The last year or so had had a tremendous effect on all charities, including our own.
'As a result this year we are asking people for cat food donations rather than cash donations, though donations would still be gratefully received.
'Many of us who are cat owners know that in every box of food you buy there are two or three flavours your dear cat will turn its nose up at.
'Therefore people have lots of unopened cat food taking up cupboard space.
'Cats Protection can use that food.
'By donating food, it frees up money to be spent on veterinary bills, equipment and new pens.'
If you have cat food to donate, you can drop it off in donation boxes at Okeford Vets in Okehampton and Chagford, the Big H Superstore, Mole Avon, and North Park Vets in Okehampton, North Tawton and Hatherleigh.
