AN Organ Grinders' Festival is being staged at Dingles Fairground Centre, near Lifton, this weekend.

Demonstrating the art of the hand turned organ on August 8, 9 and 10 will be members of the British Organ Grinders' Association, who will all be dressed in Victorian outfits (pictured right).

The association was set up in 1991 by Peter Churchard along with a handful of British enthusiasts, who decided that a club was needed for people passionate about hand-turned organs. Since then, the association has grown to more than 500 members from all over the world.

The hand turned organ was the instrument of choice of street buskers in the 19th and early 20th century. The tone of these instruments is varied but tuneful and holds an interesting repertoire of music.

Everyone is also invited to join in the fun of the 'old time' fair, with a coconut shy, penny arcade, dodgems, motorcycle speedway and children's roundabout.

The centre is open from 10.30am to 5pm.
