MOUNT House School chapel choir will launch this weekend?s Tavistock Sings! music festival with a tea time concert at St Eustachius Church tomorrow (Friday).

The 45-minute programme of sacred and secular music, conducted by the school?s director of music, Catherine Jordan, will start at 4pm. Admission to the concert is free.

Festival director Simon Ible said: ?It is a real pleasure to have the students from Mount House School launch the festival and I am delighted to be able to provide a platform for some of Tavistock?s young singers.

?It will be a fantastic start to the weekend?s events. I hope people in town shopping on Friday afternoon will come and support them.?

The concert replaces the youth choir competition, which had to be postponed because the festival fell too close to the Easter holidays.

Tickets for other festival events will be available on the door. These will include the festival gala concert with the Ten Tors Orchestra on May 3, the lunchtime song recital with soprano, Lucy Crowe and baritone, William Berger on May 4 at 12.15pm, and the Festival Evensong with the St Eustachius church choir, at 6pm the same day.

The festival will conclude with a concert of choral and orchestral music by Purcell, on Monday May 5.

Festival event details and tickets are available from Tavistock tourist information centre, which can be contacted on 01822 612938.
