CHAGSTOCK festival was a huge hit this year, with thousands of revellers enjoying a weekend packed full of talented artists and activities for all the family.

The festival, which took place last month, saw a list of top musicians, including Mercury-nominated Seth Lakeman, who entertained a full marquee with his brand of stomping folk on fiddle and guitar.

Founder of Chagstock Si Ford said the whole event was a massive success.

He said: 'The feedback has been fantastic. We had quite a line up this year and none of them disappointed the crowds.'

Mr Ford said the festival kicked off in the acoustic marquee, with Life Of Reilly opening the event, followed by Honiton-based singer-songwriter, Cole Stacey.

The Johnny Fuller Band wowed the packed marquee with a Motown extravaganza and Ella Edmondson followed with her unique songs and stirring lyrics.

On Saturday, July 18, music started again with the Morris Brothers Band on the main stage, with some classic-style rock riffs, which drifted out across the open fields, shared with the Okehampton College Choir, who opened the acoustic stage.

The festival headliners were Squeeze, who rolled off hit after hit to an enthusiastic crowd.

'There was the usual eclectic mix from Australia's growling Rory Ellis through to Spanish Flamenco, Demelza, Alex Hart, the amazingly zany John Otway, followed by the 3 Daft Monkeys, who were all on the acoustic stage.'

On the main stage was a mix of young and seasoned talent with The Casitas, the blues of The Lost Mules, the Cat In The Hat with the legendary Bill Birks, The Dastards and the organiser's band, No Crisis.

'Then came The Bad Shepherds who wowed the crowed with folk versions of punk classics from the 70s and 80s.'

The festival had a few improvements and additions this year, with a quiet family camping field, more children's entertainment, including a free standing climbing wall, and lots more caterers and traders.

Mr Ford added: 'We know we haven't got everything right yet, but each year we hope to learn and improve for the next year — I now have to figure out who to get to headline for 2010.'
